Roger Rocks on with Honors
Queen
were awarded a Rock Honors Award in May 2006. It is estimated that over
1 million viewers tuned in for the VH1 Rock Honors Awards telecast. Opening
the show was a tribute to Queen by Foo Fighters. Roger and Brian also appeared
in this segment. The moment the guys exploded on to stage the live audience
watching the show burst into a roar of cheer and excitiment. See Footage
1: Show Opening and Foo Fighters Tribute to Queen.
From
this telecast Queen was catapulted once again to the top of the music talk
for the month. The VH1 Rock Honors awards was able to give Queen massive
exposure to the pop culture that views music through the culture lenses
of what they are fed through television. The VH1 Rock Honors awards continued
to run with a massive Queen dedication (See Footage 2 and 4) followed by
more live performances (See Footage 3 and 5) and to finalise the Queen segment,
interviews with Paul Rodgers, Brian may and Roger Taylor (See Footage 6).
The overall social impact of Queen wining the VH1 Rock Honors Awards has
been a very rewarding one for Queen. Queen have now taken their rightful
place back within the modern music scene are up there with the best of them.
Classic rock hmm I don't think so. Not after this appearance.

The
Revival of Queen Drummer Roger Taylor
It has been 19 years since Roger Taylor has toured
with Queen as the drummer. Roger is currently on his second leg of the
Queen and Paul Rodgers tour this time heading back to the United States
also including Canada. Over night Roger has revived his own legacy as
a rock hero, along with Brian May and the legacy of Queen. Roger Taylor
may be looking gravely different from his long haired, tight leather pant
and bare-chested looks of the 70's (See picture 1) - to a more sophisticated,
mature and conservative look that he currently has in the 2005-06.
Today there are still hints
of the young Roger still dwelling within his aging body as can be seen
in some recent photos of Roger Taylor on the Queen and Paul Rodgers tour
2005-06.
Roger is still wooed and raved after by many hopeful women wanting to
catch the eye of the aged drummer. Even at the age of 57 he is able to
captivate and attract the purest of female hearts as he burns through
his tour drumming new beats of admiration for him from his new and old
fans. As each concert is preformed Roger's popularity amongst both male
and female fans catapults to a new height of popularity, one that he has
not experienced at this magnitude for some time.
As Queen move forward into a new
direction with Paul Rodgers for a brief moment in time, something amazing
is happening. The legacy of one of Rock's drumming legend is renewed and
revived penetrating through the barriers of the current pop music culture
that exists today in the modern day. See the articles listed below to
see some of the media reports on Roger Taylor, Brian May and Paul Rodgers
for current USA second tour.
All of a sudden a new generation
of young adolescence that are accustomed to studio produced music now
know who Queen are again and who the drummer in Queen is. As for the older
long term Roger Taylor Queen fans, that have been starved from a man they
all loved so dearly since the death of Freddie Mercury, they all of a
sudden have their hero back in front of them playing for them all over
again.
Only the mists of time can tell
how long the Roger Taylor Revival will last. One thing is for sure the
longer Roger continues with Queen in it's current format the longer the
legacy of Roger Taylor and Queen will live on in the hearts and minds
of new and the now older generation of Queen and Paul Rodgers Fans. Roger
Taylor has stepped out of the shadows of the past into the current day
finding new fame and acceptance from many different cultural groups and
from a vast age range.
Keep on drumming Roger the younger
generation are just getting to know you for the first time. There is a
legacy that needs to be passed on and it is your turn to tell the story.

'Liar'
– A Rock ballad about betrayal by one that you open yourself up
to and love.
My love could teach the blind to see
My love's the wildest mystery
My love said she'd be the one
Now I know
Baby you're a liar
You're a liar
(Reference: http://www.aussiequeens.com/lyrics/cr-madbadanddangeroustoknow.htm#liar)
One of the greatest sociological themes running through music is that
of loss or betrayal of a loved one. The Cross song 'Liar' is certainly
an example of this. Throughout history the theme of the gilted or betrayed
lover occurs constantly, usually with the result of the betrayed person
feeling hurt, lost, angry or depressed. This often leads to them seeking
revenge, becoming sucidial, trying to rekindal a dead feeling or writing
poetry.
The
song 'Liar' falls into this last category. The protagonist of the song
seems to have discovered that their lover has betrayed them. Rather than
seeking revenge or top themselves they decide to bemoan their fate and
redirect their anger by calling the object of their desires and instigator
of heart ache a liar. Sociologically this shows how a relations once built
on love and trust passes through this stage of anger to hatered once a
betrayal of this trust has occured. The implication of this to society
to in general show that love is a remarkable fragile thing which can be
broken very simply. Is this indicative of the general fragility of society
itself. Is The Cross making a suggestion that society which hangs together
on mutal trust as fragile as a love affair that deteriorates the moment
something happens to breach that trust.
As in the line of the song
When my love dances she makes me cry
My love dances with me tonight
My love said she'd be the one
(Reference: http://www.aussiequeens.com/lyrics/cr-madbadanddangeroustoknow.htm#liar)
Which
clearly show the harmony of the relationship expressed through the neccesary
harmonies of dance and music, but also the essential harmonies that create
the dance of life we call society. We rely on this essential haromony
on this "dance" to feel safe and secure within our role in this
society. When that society betrays us such as through disaster, political
unrest, unemployment we react in anger, stricking out at that socitey
and labelling the representatives of that society as 'Liars'. At the same
time however like our protaginist trying to win his lady back we try to
reintergrate into society often by using inappropriate methods. As he
states:
Baby
you're a liar, oh yeah
You're a liar
A liar
I'm burning with desire
(Reference:
http://www.aussiequeens.com/lyrics/cr-madbadanddangeroustoknow.htm#liar)
He
is burning with desire to get back to this person who has betrayed him
(unlikely after publically calling her a liar) parelles the social misfits
desire to reintergrate into society while at the same time engaging in
anti-social behaviour. Our protaginist attacks the object of his desire
by calling him a liar. The social misfit attacks the object of their desire
through crime, graffetti or otherwise making a spketical of themselves.
Both are attemping to attract the attention of the object of their desire
in a negative way having some strange belief that this will endear them
and enable them once more to enter into a relationship.
With
the look of a panther
I got lost in the jungle
(Reference: http://www.aussiequeens.com/lyrics/cr-madbadanddangeroustoknow.htm#liar)
The
above quote amply illustrates this point. The panther, a master of camoflage,
hides on the fringe of the jungle (ie. society) watching and waiting for
a chance and leap in and once more become a member (ie. lost) of society.
So
in the song Liar by Peter Noone, we can see not only the social stigma
of a lost love but can broaden this to the social fear of being disenfranchaised.

Queen
Fans throughout the world are running a 'Help Queen Get Into USA Main
Media Email Campaign':
Queen and Paul Rodgers are currently on tour in the states. They are getting
very little media coverage from the USA press and the fans are now all
sending in emails to a series of media places in a bid to pressure the
USA press to cover the Queen and Paul Rodgers tour. Rumours are pouring
out of the states that no one knows Queen are heading their way and they
are claiming that the promoter has done very little to advertise the tour.
Subsequently Queen are not selling out due to people just not knowing
about the tour. The ticket prices have been slashed as they were initally
set at too high a price. Tickets are selling now for as low as $37.25USD
